What kind of groups rent the Firehouse?
All kinds. The building has hosted training meetings, association meetings, board meetings, staff retreats, job fairs, wedding receptions, anniversary parties and other social events.
Can I see the building before I rent it?
Yes. Contact our office to schedule a time for a personal tour of the facility.
How do I go about reserving the facility for the date I need?
The facility is available on a first-come first-served basis. Please contact our business office for information at 803-276-1800.
Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes. Payments can be made through the City of Newberry website, www.cityofnewberry.com by clicking on the Online Payment Services button. You will be given an Event ID Number that should be used to make these payments.
What is included in my rental fee?
The fee includes the personal service and supervision our staff will provide during your event for any needs that may arise. The rental fee also includes some general cleanup and most event related amenities. Our schedule of additional charges and amenities is included in our policy guidelines.
What is not included in my rental fee?
After midnight hours are charged at an additional rate as are catering related items and linens.
Can I get a refund if I have to cancel my event?
Unfortunately, all fees are non-refundable after the designated due dates.
Can I use part of the facility and not all of it?
Yes. However, the rental fee includes full facility use.
Can I have my own caterer for my event?
Yes, you can. However, all potential caterers are required to follow all guidelines laid out in the Food Servers Agreement.
Our group doesn’t need full catering; do you have a snack or beverage service?
Yes. You can get snack service or beverage service or both. These prices can be found in our schedule of additional charges and amenities which is included in our policy guidelines.
Why do wedding related events require a minimum 12-hour rental period?
Wedding related events most often require advance decoration and setup that is not required for other functions. The 12-hour rental period allows for caterers, wedding planners and florists to enter the building early enough to set up and generally allows enough time for the actual event to take place, time for guests to leave, and for cleanup.
When was the Firehouse built?
In the 1890’s and was remodeled to an Art Deco style in the 1930’s.
Do the red doors still open?
No. The old fire trucks used to park in what is now the lobby, but the doors were sealed during construction.
Is Old Joe really buried outside the firehouse?
That’s what we’re told.
